Leadership Newsletter Item – week 3
Wow, week 3 already! The students are well and truly settled into their new classes and getting used to routines and structures including Initialit and Daily Review in maths. Our Parliament is also beginning to take shape with the announcement of our prime minister and deputy prime minister this week. Congratulations to Amreej who is our Franklin Prime Minister for 2025 and Oakley who won our Deputy Prime Minister role for 2025.
This week also saw our first Breakfast Club at Franklin School. Every Tuesday Sarah and Therese from The Salvation Army will be providing breakfast in the Community Room from 8.30am. The turn out on Tuesday was great and the juice, fresh fruit and warm toasties were a hit! We hope to see more families dropping by in the coming weeks.
A big thank you to all of our students and families who are following our updated morning lines procedures. The students are finding their new lines more quickly every day. Having family members at the back of the lines makes it easy for students to see the speakers and staff members, and it also allows teachers to easily walk up and down the lines to encourage positive listening behaviours. Don’t forget to wave goodbye to your children at the end of morning lines, making it less congested and easier for students to get to class at the conclusion of morning lines.
A friendly reminder that Franklin is a nut-free school as we have a number of students with severe nut allergies.
5:30pm Monday, 24th Feb Community Room
On Monday, 24th February we are hosting ThinkUKnow presentations for parents and carers. The presentation is delivered by volunteers from law enforcement and industry partners (Bankwest, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Datacom and Microsoft Australia), and provides information that is accurate, relevant and actionable to educate the community about online child sexual exploitation
Please note that the presentation for parents and carers and is not suitable for children due to the nature of the topics discussed.
The presentation will generally run for 60 minutes, however we recommend allowing an extra 30 minutes for questions and further discussion.
Kind regards,
Karen
Kindergarten students have had a great start to the school year. We have been learning lots of new skills and getting to know our new classmates.
This week we were all excited to get a visit from Zero the Hero! Zero the Hero helps us learn about grouping 10’s as we count the days we have been at school. We created a paper chain with the numbers 1-10 to celebrate the first 10 days of school. We are looking forward to Zero the Hero visiting again when we count up to 20!
We are excited to launch a new program called ‘Mystery Reader’
The Mystery Reader program promotes and fosters a love of reading, celebrates and explores a diverse range of books, and most importantly helps students understand and strengthen the connection between their learning, their love of reading, and their homes (you).

Each Wednesday morning a Mystery Reader will visit our Kindergarten classroom to read a book of their choice. We have had some very special Mystery Readers including Simon, Rob and Alice. A note has been sent home to Kindergarten families with more information.
Here we are at the beginning of another exciting year of reading and learning. Our library is a very important resource for all the teachers and students at Franklin.
Would you like to help in the library? A half an hour spent reshelving and tidying the books can make a big difference. If you are dropping off students in the morning or picking up in the afternoon perhaps you could stay a little while longer in the morning or arrive a little earlier in the afternoon.
At the end of the year help with stocktaking is also very much appreciated.
If you would like to discuss with me how you can help please come and speak to me on any Thursday.
Thank you
Noreen Pidgeon (Teacher-librarian)
